As one of his first actions in office, President Biden worked with Congress to put forward a comprehensive package to stop coronavirus from spreading, vaccinate Americans, and deliver direct, immediate relief to people in need. This bold relief bill passed because people like you raised their voice, called Congress, and organized to take back the White House and flip the Senate.
The bill is one of the most progressive pieces of legislation in history and will have immediate & long-term benefits. The American Rescue Plan will:
Cut child poverty in half by providing a child tax credit of $3,600 for children under 6 and $3,000 for children up to 17
Provide 85% of Americans $1,400 direct payments
Reduce the number of people living in poverty by one-third, lifting 13 million Americans out of poverty and boosting incomes of the bottom 20% of Americans by one-third
Provide $350 billion to help state, local and tribal governments who have been at the forefront of combatting the pandemic
Extend unemployment benefits for 11 million Americans
Improve access to health care, including covering 100% of coverage for laid off workers and saving millions of Americans hundreds of dollars
Provide $14 billion in funding for national vaccine and testing programs
Reopen schools safely and address “learning loss” by providing $170 billion for K-12 schools and higher education
Provide $50 billion for small businesses, including $7 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program
This bill meets the moment by offering sweeping relief through diverse policies. And after a year of devastating costs to our health and economy, the American Rescue Plan is what we need.
